The Haringey Arts Festival launched in 2021, just as we were beginning to come out of lockdown. People had rediscovered local during that time, but it was tough going for venues.
The arts festival was a way to reinvigorate that. To encourage local artists to create and perform, and to encourage smaller venues to consider their potential with new events.
For some, it had been their busiest events in months. So we kept it going. And it's built each year.
Check out the original proposal we took to local venues.
The Haringey Arts Festival is a community-run arts festival, with co-operation and cross-promotion at its heart.
We believe in local artists and local venues. We believe you can have a great night out with great artists locally, without paying west-end prices.
We believe in a diverse mix of events and inclusivity. And we believe in independence and people putting on stuff they want to put on - if a venue and a performer can work out doing something, we want to let people know about it.
We believe that any money made should flow towards artists and venues.
Finally, during a time of cost-of-living crises and arts-funding cuts, we believe in making arts and entertainment as accessible and welcoming as we can.
The founders of the arts festival have been running events in some of Haringey's newest, most off-beat venues. We've seen just how much quality and variety there is in this borough, and we want to shout about it.
Also, we want to bring people to Haringey. With the great transport links and the history of great venues in the area, we think Haringey just makes sense for a London arts hub. And we want everyone to be part of it.
